What is Yoga Therapy?
“Yoga Therapy is the process of empowering individuals to progress toward improved health and well-being through the application of the philosophy and practice of yoga”
The International Association of Yoga Therapists
The Yoga Therapy I offer is a personalised, evidence-informed approach that blends the wisdom of yoga with contemporary movement and therapeutic modalities. Each session is tailored to the individual, supporting physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing through self-awareness and safe, customized, one-on-one sessions.
The practice draws from a range of modalities:
- Yoga Therapy – mindful postures, breathing practices, and relaxation techniques designed to restore balance and ease.
- Pranayama (Breathwork) – specific breathing techniques to enhance respiratory function, calm the nervous system, and regulate energy.
- Guided Meditation & Body Scan – practices that develop present-moment awareness, reduce stress, and support emotional resilience.
- Functional Movement – everyday movement patterns that improve stability, mobility, and strength for real-life application.
- Pilates Principles – core-focused exercises to support posture, spinal health, and body alignment.
- Somatic Movement – gentle, mindful explorations that increase body awareness, release held tension, and restore fluidity.
- Supportive, therapeutic relationship – offering a safe, compassionate space for clients to explore and process emotional and physical experiences.
There is no ‘one size fits all’ in Yoga Therapy.
Although all yoga is potentially therapeutic and can help improve our overall health and wellbeing, yoga therapy is specific to the individual. From the first consultation, we explore a variety of practices to develop a home practice for you to work with, specifically tailored to your needs, and designed to support your body’s innate healing potential…. whilst working with other health practitioners you may be using.

Yoga Therapy and Counselling sessions on the Sunshine Coast, QLD.
What might a session look like?
Yoga Therapy can be one-on-one with initial consultation including assessment followed by a series of visits depending on the goal/s and progress.
Every session is adapted
Some may focus more on breath and nervous system regulation (for anxiety or asthma), while others lean into posture and strength work (for scoliosis or functional mobility). The pace is always gentle, collaborative, and responsive to your needs.
OR
A group Yoga Therapy class where a common theme is explored, such as strengthening the back, increasing stability and balance, or breathing for anxiety. However, in the Yoga Therapy class, each client will practice according to their specific needs and goals.
Please note: Yoga Therapy does not have to replace therapies or other medical intervention you may be using. As a yoga therapist we may work alongside your existing practitioner.
