What is Yoga Therapy?

“Yoga Therapy is the process of empowering individuals to progress toward improved health and well-being through the application of the philosophy and practice of yoga”
The International Association of Yoga Therapists

Simply put Yoga Therapy is a way of working collaboratively with your therapist to provide an individualised care program to address physical, mental or emotional needs at this time.  As your therapist, I will guide you in using some or all of the yogic tools listed below to unlock and develop your own inner resources to help you on your way to improved health and wellbeing.

  • Yoga postures (Asanas)
  • Breathing techniques (Pranayama)
  • Meditation and visualisation techniques
  • Yoga philosophy – looking at how the mind-body effect one another
  • Techniques such as hand positions (Mudras) and Sound techniques (Mantras) may also be offered
There is no ‘one size fits all’ in Yoga Therapy.

Although all yoga is potentially therapeutic and can help improve our overall health and wellbeing, yoga therapy is specific to the individual. From the first consultation, we explore a variety of practices to develop a home practice for you to work with, specifically tailored to your needs, and designed to support your body’s innate healing potential…. whilst working with other modalities you may be using.
